Former President Donald Trump’s current spate of “mean-spiritedness” shows that he’s really feeling the pressure of the 2024 election, New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman suggested on Monday.
Lashing out is what the Republican nominee “does when he feels like he’s under threat, he’s cornered or threatened,” Haberman told CNN’s Dana Bash.

Trump at the weekend launched blistering attacks on Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, his wife and other Republicans in the state.
Haberman acknowledged that Trump “often is very mean in his attacks” but said recently it’s “been harder to discern because he hasn’t been as public.”
The attack on Kemp, however, was “sort of more evocative of January 2021 than anything that we have seen in the last year,” said Haberman in video shared online by Mediaite.
“Nobody needs to wonder whether he is concerned about the state of this race” against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, Haberman added. “Just look at what he’s saying on the trail.”
