The 2024 Paris Olympics are officially open. Friday's opening ceremony was the first for a summer Games to be held outside a stadium. The French capital previously hosted the Olympics in 1900 and 1924.
This time, the athletes paraded on boats along the River Seine. The procession started with Greece, birthplace of the Olympics. Russians and Belarusians competing as neutrals were barred from the ceremony.
International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach delivered a speech. And French President Emmanuel Macron officially declared the Games open.
There are 329 events across 32 sports at the Paris Olympics.
Athletes from about 200 countries and territories are taking part. The event runs through August 11.
