The top diplomats of Japan and Britain say their countries will continue to promote security cooperation, while viewing the Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic regions as inseparable.
Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy met on Friday in Laos.
Kamikawa congratulated Lammy on his appointment earlier this month, and said Japan is closely communicating with the new UK government, including at the leaders' level.
She also expressed hope that the two countries will further advance bilateral relations.
Lammy echoed her view, and expressed a willingness to collaborate.
Kamikawa and Lammy confirmed that their countries will continue jointly developing a next-generation fighter jet.
British media said last week that the new government might review the project due to concerns about funding.
