Former US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have exchanged views about ongoing fighting between Israel and the Islamic group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Trump, the Republican Party's presidential nominee, met with Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Friday. The Israeli leader addressed a joint session of Congress in Washington on Wednesday.

Trump referred to the hostages taken by Hamas. He said they are "obviously not being treated properly," and called the situation unacceptable.

He expressed willingness to realize peace in the Middle East if he wins the presidential election in November.

He said: "If we win, it'll be very simple. It's all gonna work out and very quickly. If we don't, you're gonna end up with major wars in the Middle East and maybe a third world war."

Netanyahu said he will dispatch a team to the Italian capital Rome probably early next week to negotiate a deal for a ceasefire and the release of hostages.

He added that he thinks there has been "some movement because of the military pressure that we exerted."

He expressed hope that there will be "sufficient movement" to complete a deal.
