Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) swiftly took down GOP strategist David Urban for attempting to knock his recent endorsement of Joe Biden following the Democrat’s rocky presidential debate performance.
“You just endorsed President Biden the day before the debate,” CNN’s Anderson Cooper said to Kinzinger on Friday before Urban cut him off.
Advertisement“How’s that going for you?” asked Urban, who served as a senior adviser to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, as he proceeded to laugh.
“I’m just wondering, any regrets about that?” Cooper said.
“No,” Kinzinger replied as Urban chuckled.
“No, David. Listen, man. You know what I’m proud of? I’m proud that I’m not standing here sitting on a stage supporting a man who is a habitual liar, who couldn’t tell the truth,” Kinzinger added, citing Trump’s statements about the House committee that Kinzinger served on to investigate the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
The former representative, who became known as a Trump critic following the riot, took to social media Wednesday to back Biden’s reelection campaign and to label Trump, the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee, a “direct threat to every fundamental American value.”
In Thursday’s debate, Biden provided rambling and sometimes incoherent responses to moderators’ questions, sparking panic in the Democratic Party.

Kinzinger later told Cooper that Thursday was a “terrible night,” adding that “the Biden campaign and Democrats gain nothing by pretending” it wasn’t.
“But the thing I am so proud of not having to do is to defend a man who could not tell the truth last night,” Kinzinger said, referring to Trump.
Urban then asked Kinzinger if he wished he hadn’t endorsed Biden.
“No. No, I don’t wish I didn’t endorse him,” Kinzinger replied.
“I’m proud of standing against the habitual liar who lies about everything from Jan. 6 to his golf game, that he wins club championships, that he’s never lost. That makes me proud.”
